Christina Georgaki is a lawyer, founder of the Georgaki & Partners Law Firm with offices in Thessaloniki, Athens, and London, where she shares her life and professional activity.
Thessaloniki remains her and her family's base, mentioning its quality of life and potential as important benefits. She underlines that the bet is for Thessaloniki to create the prerequisites to encourage its young people to stay, and how that can be done, mentioning as an example, that Thessaloniki has been voted as the best city for digital nomads. She holds a Bachelor's Degree from AUTh, a Master's Degree from the University of Macedonia, and she recently completed her PhD at the Warwick Business School, specialising in Foreign Direct Investments.
After all, this is the sector that focuses on her professional activities offering vertically integrated services to foreigners who want to invest in Greece, and manages investment portfolios. She sees a change in the position and the image of the country abroad, noticing the return of young scientists and professionals, stating: "2015's referendum found me in London. My fellow students were asking me if I need any help, something for my kids, medicine etc. Today, the English tell us that we are the most successful model of political stability in Europe in recent years."
Ms. Georgaki, speaking at the MyPortal.gr's v-podcast with Vangelis Plakas, points out that now, supply of scientific personnel is greater than the demand and mentions the need for intergenerational exchange. "We need to take young people by the hand, build their confidence, give them space, opportunities, and potential. We need to take a few steps back so they can take centre stage," she states. With regard to private universities (she is a Teaching Fellow at Alba Graduate Business School – The American College of Greece) she estimates that will become an attraction for new students in Thessaloniki, reminding that for many years now, a large number of young people from neighbouring countries choose to study at the city's colleges.
