Financially Independent Individuals

1. Individuals with sufficient resources

General Scope

Non-EU residents who can prove taxes income of more than 3.500 euros per month in their country of origin are eligible for Greek Residence permit.


1. Pursuant to Article 163 par.8 of the Greek Immigration Code (L.5038/2023), a residence permit is granted to third-country nationals, provided that the persons concerned have sufficient resources, at the level of a fixed annual income to cover living expenses.
2. These resources must be equal to a minimum amount of €3.500 stable income per month and can be proven through a foreign pension, a bank account, or evidence that they possess sufficient financial means of their own, to cover their living expenses without engaging in dependent employment in Greece.
3. Τhe assessment of sufficient means can be done on a monthly basis (if the income is periodic, such as a form of pension, salary, or foreign dividends) or annually (in cases of income from other sources, such as bank deposits).
4. The holder of F.I.P. Residence Permit may be accompanied by his/her family members (spouse, children), to whom an individual residence permit shall be issued expiring at the same time of expiry of the main applicant’s residence permit. If the holder of a F.I.P. Residence Permit is accompanied by family members, the required amount increases by 20% for the spouse and 15% for each child.
5. The F.I.P. Residence Permit is initially valid for three years and can be renewed for an equal duration.
6. It is imperative that the third-country citizen’s absence from Greece does not exceed 6 months annually.
7. No right to dependent work or independent economic activity of any kind in Greece for their main applicant, their spouse or family members.

 

2. Residence Permit For Digital Nomad

General Scope

The Greek Digital Nomad Visa was initially unveiled by the Greek government in the summer of 2021 and allows remote workers and online entrepreneurs to live and work in Greece for up to two (2) years.

Requirements for the Greek Digital Nomad Visa

  • The Greek Digital Nomad Visa is available to all non-EU citizens who meet the specific criteria. There are certain financial and legal requirements for any digital nomad planning to live in Greece. An income of at least 3.500 euro per month is necessary, along with additional proof of remote work.
  • You must have a valid passport, a health insurance contract as well as a lease contract of at least a year in Greece.
  • The digital nomad visa is valid for two years, with an annual absence limit of six (6) months.

Option 1: Enter with a Tourist Visa and Apply from Within Greece

  • You can enter Greece with a tourist visa (Schengen visa for non-EU citizens).
  • Once in Greece, you’ll need to sign a one-year lease contract for accommodation.
  • Before your 90-day tourist visa expires, you must submit your application for a residence permit as a digital nomad to the competent immigration authorities of your place of residency in Greece.


Option 2: Apply for a Digital Nomad Visa Before Entering Greece

  • You can also apply for a Type D Digital Nomad Visa at the Greek consulate in your country of permanent residence.
  • Once the visa is approved and issued, you can enter Greece with that visa.
  • During the one-year validity of the Digital Nomad Visa, you can submit your residence permit application from within Greece.
